Description
During a flight to Lima, I had the chance to capture the southern Milky Way from the flight deck, while cruising at 38'000ft.
Some wonders of the southern sky that are never visible to northern hemisphere viewers can be seen in this image:
The beautiful Southern Cross (Constellation Crux), several dark nebulas, like e.g. the Coalsack or the Vela Dark Nebula Complex, stunning red emission nebulas, including the Running Chicken Nebula, bright Eta Carinae Nebula and the huge Gum Nebula, open clusters C91, C96 and the Southern Pleiades and of course the Milky Way dwarf galaxies, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds.
