Artist's Description
At a distance of 2.5 million light years, the Andromeda Galaxy is not accessible by human space travel. To reach it, you'll have to wait a few billion years, until its scheduled collision with our Milky Way - or you conveniently take the cosmic cable car to Andromeda Station...
'Deepscape' images at higher focal lengths are still an uncommon sight and many are composites of a deep sky object over an unrelated foreground, but be assured that this is a real scene. While capturing deep sky image of good quality involves combining many individual sub frames and sophisticated post processing, the cosmic lineup is absolutely real. 'Andromeda Station' is better known as Weisshorn, the highest peak of the ski area in Arosa, Switzerland. Sky and foreground were captured back to back from the same position and with the same equipment and focal length.
About Ralf Rohner

As a landscape photographer and pilot I have the privilege to travel the world and visit some of the most beautiful places on our planet. I started photography as an astro-photographer, which still shows in my passion for nightscapes. While not exclusively shooting at night, a big part of my work shows the beauty of the starry night skies in combination with some iconic landscapes. Thanks for visiting my gallery.
