Description
You may have been wondering what the sky looked like when the dinosaurs were roaming our planet. Nobody will ever be able to answer that question, but the sky definately looked totally different.
Many prominent stars in our sky, like e.g. Antares, Deneb, Betelgeuse or Riegel did not exist yet when the dinosaurs were extinct 65 million years ago. Furthermore, it takes about 200 to 250 million years for our solar system to orbit the galactic center. Earth therefore has completed a full orbit since the first dinosaurs appeared in the Triassic Period and was basically in the other side of the galaxy when this Spinosaurus lived.
This image of my 2018 visit to the famous sculptures from artist Ricardo Breceda in Borrego Springs therefore does not show what the the skies looked like in the middle of the 'Age of the Reptiles', the Mesozoic Era. Spending a night, shooting these stunning guys under todays starry skies however, makes you feel like you were really there.
